Lothar’s  tether, now stretched to its limit, pulls him back to a standstill. Cliff and Jenny run past him. Lothar turns to face the oncoming hydrogen inferno. He holds his  hands up in front of him and yells, just as he’s engulfed by the flames.

Meanwhile, in the autogyro, Howard Hughes shouts at Peevy, “Drop the ladder!”

“Right!” replies Peevy, tossing a rolled up wire ladder off the port wing.  Cliff and Jenny hurry to reach the oncoming ladder.

“Jump for it, Clifford!” shouts Peevy. The flames are almost on top of them. There’s a burst of flame, and  Jenny and Cliff emerge from the flames, still hanging onto the ladder.

“Let’s get outta here!” shouts Hughes, and banks the autogyro left. The autogyro heads away from the pillar of fire as the fully-engulfed airship crashes into the Hollywood hillside.  The swastika on the tail burns away, revealing the metal framework of the airship.  Soon, only flames and smoke are visible as the scene fades.

The scene changes to Sunday morning, October 16th. Millie picks fresh oranges from a tree across the street from the Bull Dog Cafe. Goose and Skeets wave at Millie as they enter the cafe.

“Hi, Millie!” yells Goose.

“Hey, ‘morning Millie!” yells Skeets. “How’re ya doing?”

“‘Morning, boys!” replies Millie.

In their usual booth inside the diner, Peevy reads the morning paper to Jenny and Cliff.
