The Rocketeer,

Minute 104: The Look on Your Face

September 14, 2017

Hughes’s limo backs on to the Encino Road as Cliff watches him leave. Behind Secord, a crowd admires his new GeeBee Model R.

Cliff waves to the limo as it drives away, then turns back to his friends gathered around the GeeBee.

“Isn’t it pretty?” says Millie.

Cliff stands next to Peevy and gestures at the plane.  “Peevy, I-,” says Cliff, “I didn’t even get a chance to thank him!”

Peevy shakes his head. “You don’t have to, son,” replies Peevy,  “He saw the look on your face.” Cliff smiles.

“Cliff, I have something for you, too!” says Jenny.  “Actually, it’s for Peevy.”  She hands Peevy his handmade, stolen schematics for the Cirrus X-3 that she grabbed from Sinclair’s secret room.

“Oh, no!” says Peevy, laughing. Jenny and Cliff also laugh, then Cliff draws Jenny close to him.

“What was that line again?” asks Cliff. “O, my Prince…”

“Would that you drink of my lips…” begins Jenny.

“Thanks,” says Cliff, “I don’t mind if I do.” Both smile, and kiss.

“Clifford,” says Peevy, “Take a look at this here. Here, look! I bet if we increase the manifold pressure up about twenty-five percent, so then switch the fuel-to-air ratio, just favoring the fuel, just a little, so…” Peevy notices Cliff and Jenny are too busy kissing to pay any attention to him. Peevy looks around to see who else he can talk to about this idea. “Hey, Goose!’ he shouts, “Do you wanna take a — take a look here…”  and walks off-camera.
